Regional Resource Centers in Africa

As a follow-through of the African Proverbs Project and connected to the African Proverbs, Sayings and Stories Website and Email Mailing List, four Regional Resource and Research Centers for African Proverb Collection Registry (especially in libraries) and Research are located in Nairobi, Kenya; Pretoria, South Africa; Accra, Ghana; and Abidjan, Ivory Coast. These four centers integrate proverb research with their existing programs. They are a loose network of centers with common goals of data collection and research promotion. Specific objectives and activities of the Regional Centers are:
  1. Maintain and expand their own holdings of African proverb collections and research.
  2. Maintain and expand the data collections begun by the African Proverbs Project.
  3. Encourage and promote proverb research generally especially Endangered Proverbs Collections.
  4. Network: maintain contacts with other centers, offices, universities and interested people.
